Matus snaps West Warwick's seven game winning streak, 6-1!
Led by the stellar pitching of Jack Matus and a defense that did not commit an error, East Greenwich (6-6-1) snapped West Warwick’s seven game winning streak, 6-1.
In a complete game effort, Matus struck out five batters and allowed just one run on four hits. Out of 77 pitches thrown, he threw 56 strikes.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Avengers jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Owen Drolet reached on and error and moved to second on a single by Matus. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Ryan Macauley launched a two-run triple to the right field fence. Macauley later scored on a groundout by Matt Licciardi.
West Warwick’s lone run came in the top of the sixth inning when Quinn Kortick reached on an infield single, moved to second on bunt by Calvin Battersby, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on his brother Kyle’s sacrifice fly to centerfield.
